BioShock: Infinite - 10 Minute Gameplay Video Impressions

For those who haven't heard of BioShock: Infinite... have you been living under a rock? Okay, I suppose it's not that big of a deal as we've only seen one video so far, but it was awesome nonetheless! I'm guessing most people have seen it by now, but a new 10 minute gameplay video has been released showing the setting in more detail. What we know so far is that it will take place before the events of Rapture, set in the fictional city in the sky, known as Columbia. This video sheds a bit more light on how the game will unfold. Check it out!

Okay, I suppose it's more of a gameplay-style concept video, rather than an actual gameplay video. After all, the game isn't coming until 2012, so it's pretty surprising that they even have this to show us. What it shows is a decent amount of the world, along with some combat and interaction with the environments. Right off the bat we see that something has obviously gone wrong, and the city has gone a bit mad, much like Rapture. This time it looks a lot like we'll be seeing it as it unfolds, rather than blasting through the aftermath. The city's inhabitants are shown carrying on with their daily lives (riding around on a mechanical horse-drawn buggy with a missing wheel, sweeping up a shop that has been engulfed in flames, and feeding a horde of hawks from a park bench) even with all the madness taking place around them. They seem unfazed by the city falling to ruins, which obviously shows that something has happened to cause them to be... not completely straight in the head. The gameplay itself looks like it will pretty much be the same thing. We get to see some gun play, as well as a couple of familiar plasmids being used.

One cool mechanic is a sort of zip-line that takes you from one building to another, across the open sky. Battles look to be much more involved, as you're being attacked by an angry mob while a madman fires a giant cannon at you. You meet up with a woman named Elizabeth who comes to your rescue using powers that far surpass those of your plasmids. She creates a giant electrical storm and is able to meld metal parts together in order for you to throw at the enemies via telekinesis. After, you're attacked by two Big Daddy type enemies, the first being a big mess of mechanical parts, complete with what appears to be a human head. The video ends as the second one swoops into frame (it has wings...). There looks to be some great variety as far as enemies are concerned.

As I said, this is obviously more of a gameplay concept video more than an actual demo. I'm assuming very little of this has actually been coded to work within a gameplay environment at this point, but this does give us a nice look at the world, the enemies, and how the combat may unfold. Still, we're two years away and it could end up looking nothing like this. Who knows? Remember the first BioShock gameplay video? Yeah. Still, I'm extremely excited and I don't think I'm alone in saying that 2012 can't come soon enough. Unless you believe the world will be ending, but we'll still have BioShock: Infinite by then, so who cares?

this game looks insane! i really hope they keep the stuff they have like the rail riding and the different big daddys, it looks actually better than the first two, way more stuff happening and probably more variety too. Rapture was pretty sick but this is going to be off the chart, can't wait for 2012!
